Recreational Fires

A permit is required for all recreational fires, including open pit cookouts. Following is the list of requirements that must be met prior to issuance of a permit.There is no fee associated with this permit.

Open burning shall be deemed to be allowed with a permit only for the following:

  • For recreation, camping, or a cookout;
  • Only dry, clean wood products or other clean-burning fuels are burned;
  • Only smokeless fuels, if any, are used to start the fire;
  • The pile of material being burned is three (3) feet in diameter or less and two (2) feet or less in height; and the fire is at least twenty-five feet (25) from the nearest structure, inhabited area, roadway, property line, utility;
  • The fire is to be attended at all times Adequate means to control & extinguish the open fire shall be readily available at all times during any burning;
  • A class 4A fire extinguisher or garden hose shall be close to the fire. A barbeque grill needs no permit

You may also want to let your neighbors know that you are having a recreational fire so they are aware of the smoke that will occur.

Applications should be submitted at the Township office. Please allow ten (10) days for review and approval of the application.
